Hi folks. After having a lot of beautiful 1000cc+ Japanese screamers and 1 Harley, I have fallen in love with my 2012 Stelvio. I have recently got it rollerised in our local Guzzi dealership including a few little recall issues and a service but it has developed an annoying ticking on the right bank since I got it back and I was wondering is there any expert help here. Many thanks, Norman.

No more than about 10 miles. The bike has been under a cover since October due to a house move and a massive renovation. I took it out yesterday for a first, although the dealer had taken it for a test after doing the work and mentioned to me that he thought it was ticky. The funny thing is, before I got the work done I thought the left side was noisy, that is how I ended up rollerising it, but now it is the right side.

I find it odd the dealer said it sounded ticky. I’d l kinda want the dealer to say “now it sounds like a healthy normal engine” After doing internal engine work.

I thought the same, but I was so happy to get the bike back it was with him from March 22 until October waiting on parts etc and I had just moved house and was in the middle of major refurbishment at the time.

Check round the exhaust for a little leak. Check the valve clearances. Does the noise go away after a short while in which case it could be the camchain tensioner draining down whilst sitting, if not it could have been assembled incorrectly.

FWIW: Setting the valves properly and correclty on a Stelvio, really requires using two sets of feeler gauges simultaneously. If they set one valve, then the other, invariably one of the two will most likely excessively ”tick”. Seen it many many times.

You do know that all Moto Guzzi motorcycles will have some “tick” because this is the nature of the design? If you hear no ticking at all, you have the beginnings of real problems.
