Need new rubber for the 1200 Sport.

Very frustrating buying tires for a motorcycle. They ain't cheap, ya can't really tell how they're gonna feel till you put them on and scuff em in and if you don't like em, you're stuck.

So, any input on this one would be greatly appreciated.

I've burned through the Metzler's and liked them much better on my 1100 Breva than the 1200 S.

I've always been a big Dunlop fan and have been checking out the Sportmax and Elite III. But I'm hearing that the Michelin Pilots are the best match up.

Anyone have any experience to share with either?

Tire choice is mostly personal preference. My preference is the pilot Road 3. Everyone will pretty much have varying opinion. The only thing I don't like about Michelin, is they think they are perfect and don't put a weight dot on the tire. This can make balancing tricky. Sometimes you get lucky and it take little to no weights, sometimes more than you think should be necessary. When it gets extreme, I break it down and rotate the tire 90 degrees and try the balance again.

If you're a Dunlop fan (I am), put on the Roadsmart II. Nearly every bike I own has them on it.

Always been a Pirelli user on my Guzzi's.
Running Sport Daemons right now.
Balanced out great with little weight. Very good cornering grip.

I had Pilot Powers on previously and cause Im doing a bit more touring at the moment have Pilot Road 3's on now. Have taken them touring with a load on the bike and the handle well wet and dry

I changed from Metzler Z6 to Pilot Roads with a 170/60-17 rear tire. The handling is almost scooter like.

If you like the Dunlops, stick with them. Those that ride them hard suggest that they have great feedback from the road and will let you know before they let go. Myself, I reshod with a set of Michelin Pilot Power 2 ;which so far have been nicer than the Metzlers. However will be interesting to see how long they go for. I blew the last 1/3 of the Metzlers away in one afternoon between Armidale and Dorrigo, but I was up it for the rent for 200km's of high speed corners at the time so not surprising. I think that inflation pressure was mostly the cause as it is really important on the heaver bikes, especially when you work them hard. I'm running 41 psi on the rear at the moment which is as hard as I've ever run a tire, and these PP2's are really holding their shape well at this pressure. They tell me the PR3's are equally as good with better wear? Regards.

What people like seems to depend on their riding style. It's a problem when you don't put enough miles on to wear out tires and try different brands, it's best to try out a variety of tires. I haven't tried the PR3s yet, but my buddy with an RT loves them. I am a moderately aggressive driver, I tour and look for twisty mountain roads. The tire that I have found to my liking after trying the, BT-023, RdSmart, PR2, the Angel Sport touring, and now that I've had the Avon Storm IIs (multi-tension sprot touring) on for a while, are Metzeler Z8s (multi-tension sport touring), they seem to neutralize bits of gravel on the road and take some of the shock out of hitting pot holes. All this without making the tire feel squishy or unstable. But I have to admit they are all pretty good, the differences to me are minor. Except for the BT-023s seemed to loose grip in the rear where the others didn't in a similar situation.
I found the Storm IIs and the Piolts to be the flickiest while the others had a little more feel going into turns.

This may be apples and oranges since I'm still riding my R11RT, but roadsmart 2 I managed 8500 miles. With Pilot Road 2, 14,500 miles with 40psi front and rear. My second set of pr2 has 6500 miles and shows very little wear. Some say pr3 is better, I don't know.... Would love to try them on a Norge.

I am looking at heading north this summer which if I can get the correct tire, will include a little bit of gravel. Can anyone recommend a tire that is good for highway/wet and include some gravel/packed gravel roads. I am looking at tires for both my B11 and Norge 8V. I am not looking for adventure tires, just something that will assist in gravel traction and not be chewed to pieces over 50-100 km of gravel.

Sorry, this is probably not what you want to hear.

Tire posts are like oil posts, they run the entire gamut of opinions and anecdotal evidence, and rarely give much worthwhile information.

In truth, any street tire with a decent tread pattern will do the job for what you are describing. You really don't have much to choose from like you would with a Stelvio or Adventure bike.

Opinions are good. Pirelli Angel's on my Norge never an issue and will e replacing with same sometime soon

Opinions are good and I generally agree, but nowadays, any traditional tire manufacturer will have a sport touring pair that will work beautifully. I always ask my trusted dealer which tires are on sale or has a rebate and go with them. Currently @CT's on a Griso, Avons on the Stelvio and Roadsmart 3's on a Kawasaki ZX1000....all work great and their abilities far outweigh mine

might be the smartest tire statement ever!
