Tonti Forks on a Loop

Interesting you should mention exhaust flex tubing. A couple friends stopped by the shop yesterday and I was grousing about the cross-over fit and that very solution was mentioned. I like it.

Looks like there should be plenty of room even with the RH rear brake cross-over bosses.

I got a set of SS cigar mufflers from Epco (in Ohio). I love them, they are solid, nice thick SS, not the fragile stuff like Stucci. Had the same issue with the centerline of the muffler, the plane of the hanger tab and the centerline of the crossover spigot not being orthogonal to one another. Since I got into the habit of using Flexi-SS tubing (think old panhead and indian head pipes) for my crossover tube to prevent spigot breakage, I had no issues with the fact that the two crossover spigots didn't point toward one another perfectly. I got the flexi tube from JC Whitney. It goes over the spigot rather than inside, and I retain with a SS clamp. This may only work because I removed the brake crossover tabs off of my frame. YMMV...

Pretty much been done for a few weeks now. Major screw-up on the paint work involving a neck-vein bulging conversation with dead-beat painter. Had to take it all to the guy I should have taken it to in the first place. Hope it's all done by the end of the month.

Fenders turned out fine so they are mounted up and the front brake cables are done. The compensator is a re-pop of one from a Yamaha TD2/3 w/ 4LS brake. Modified and re-chromed front fender braces turned out perfect.

Ended up sawing the balance tube in half and with copious beet-age and grind-age matched up up close enough to weld and not have the exhaust shoved into place with likelihood of cracks.

Hi George!
Again what beautiful work you do.

Quick question: where do you get that lovely fabric coloured wire? Am writing a book on restoring Austin Healeys for my buddy Martin (take a look at: http://www.jule-enterprises.com - Martin is a real craftsman - take a look at his V12 powered jag) and it might come in a handy reference.

Has Pete R survived his surgery? Anyone know his current status?

Heh Chris,

the wire's available from Rhode Island Wiring:

Thanks Geodoc for letting us look over you shoulder on another project. Fantastic work! I have a question. I have located all the parts I need to upgrade my Eldo to a four shoe brake except the left side slider with the tab. I hadn't even thought about warpage when having it welded on and re-honing the hole is way beyond my pay grade. What would you think of milling a little flat with shoulders into the slider, drill and tap some holes into the slider and screw the block on fit tight into the new recess? I'm thinking the force would be taken by the shoulders, not the screws.

Heh Crafty,

I installed Tonti bike aluminum sliders on the stock tubes. I assume that you're sticking with the original steel sliders. You should be about to round up a slider with the extra 4LS tab on it from one of the usual suspects like Moe @ Cycle Garden or Mark @Moto Guzzi Classics. Then it wold be a straight forward bolt-on.

Done ................................

Jetting tweaks and misc. fiddle to get a few little defugalties sorted, but not bad.

Like the ft. suspension ............... comfy.

Will take some getting used to going back to drum brakes, though there's plenty there if you pull hard enough.

BTW - anybody got a pair of 60/3 slides for PHF 36's to trade for a pair of 50/3's?
