Hi folks. My name is Tony. l live in Brisbane , Queensland , Australia.
My mates call me 'Barney'.

ln the process [past 2yrs] of getting my 750S running. l'll keep this short and sweet as l can.

The bike had sat idle for at least 3yrs before l bought it , and another 2yrs in my garage. [other projects running].
lts 95% original and is in "used and well ridden" condition.

Only a few days ago finally got the fuel system setup , carbs serviced , hoses , needles and jets etc.
New Deka ETX30LA battery and NGK BP7ES plugs.

2nd startup the bike ran rough but was running on both barrels. No smoke. LH head 'tick tick tick' but RH head running very smooth.

3rd start. Tweaked carbs and air/fuel mix and got her running sweet , but LH head rattling more and getting much hotter than RH head.

Engine off. Removed rocker covers [again] and oil present in both heads. Drained oil and removed sump. Checked gauze and oil pump. All good and remarkably clean.

Reassembled. Start again and after approx 2-3mins of 'fast idling' [with throttle] , the LH head very hot and rattling loudly.
Engine off.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Tony.

Start by checking valve clearance and then do a compression test. Let us know what you find. I'm suspecting a bad exhaust valve, but you may get lucky.

Did the 750s have chrome cylinder bores? If so, are you sure they haven't peeled?

Just a thought.

I agree on the compression test. Have you touched/checked the ignition?

Per Guzziology, came with chrome bore-although many a bike of this era that started with chrome bore has been converted somewhere down the road, so unless you/prior owner know for sure, you'll have to check.
