I have seen this before and know that the heads do not need re-torquing .My question is what would the procedure be and the proper setting say for replacing a head gasket? What about this rotational special wrench? Will a standard torque wrench not work?
Thanks for any help

You start with a standard torque wrench. Then you must use the rotational system.

Procedure follows:

Also, for if you do ever have the heads off, there are two torque settings for the heads on the twin plugged models and they are not set soley on torque. You need to use a radial torque guage. There is an initial torque done by force/distance (15 Nm) and then the 4 nuts on the longer rocker support studs go 90*+90* and the two inner and outer bolts just go +90.

I don't have the information for the four valve heads but I hope it is in the workshop manuals available here for download.

John, thanks for the speedy reply!hate to sound dumb.but where can I purchase this tool needed ?As far as the 90 +90
I assume you move the wrench until the guage reads 90 and then stop and pull another 90.Is this correct?

Hi duc, google “torque angle guage” and you will find plenty of those.

90+90 means pulling 90 degrees for all the bolts in a criss-cross pattern and follow by a second round of 90 degrees in criss-cross pattern.

Not trying to open a can of worms, but do you really need a special tool for that? If you set it to 89°or even 85°, will this matter? If you're really concerned hold a set square above the wrench to see the angle it needs to be.

I agree with you kiwi dave. It is a flashy little gadget offering a little convenience and reassurance, not a necessity in 90 + 90 tightening

Thanks all for your help, seems simple enough when you have the correct info.
