Can anyone recommend any good track days or advanced instruction spots in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area? I'm getting better everyday, but I would rather actually advance my ability based on established technique and be able to rely on learned skills rather than just what I learn/feel based on my own riding on the road. I'm in the market for another bike, which is much more powerful than what I ride currently, and I'm thinking I could use some advanced instruction so I don't find myself in more trouble than I'd like. Thanks.

I highly recommend a track day with Cornerspeed at VIR (Danville, VA). They are a mature group, provide plenty of instruction, and run a very safe track day. I've run with them a dozen times or so. Their next track day at VIR is in April. It's a Ducati day, but any make or model can run. Sign up for the beginner group and you'll get a ton of instruction.

Rodger Lyle does track days at Summit Point, on a variety of their tracks. I think he occasionally has days at other tracks, like NCBike, but mainly he is a Summit Point thing.

He has track days and instruction/schools. He was one of the founding members of MARRC and is a great guy.

You can also look for a Non-Sport bike track day...some of the groups do that for folks who have not been on the track before or want a slower pace. Just remember its ok to pit early if you are getting tired. The track takes lots of concentration. I had a bad crash this year trying to keep up with the faster bikes and getting tired then losing focus. Its your day so do what's right for you. Have fun, it is awesome to go all out on a straight and really push the bike around in the corners.
