So I got to sneak an early February ride in with a few friends about a week and half ago...I guess I let the excitement of getting back on the road get the best of me and my bike.

Pretty smooth ride but on my way home something with my gearbox got funked up...down shifted into 2nd as a light turned green and my bike sputtered out of gear and now refuses to engage in gear. Any ideas as to what this could be?

My shift linkage busted within the first week of my ownership and i replaced that with a used piece from Harpers. I remember my mechanic told me it could be something very serious or something very simple (obviously) but I'm afraid this time it may be the former.

Fortunately I've got some time to work on this but this is my first bike so any suggestions are much appreciated.

If the linkage is OK, and the lever moves full travel it may be a problem with the shift pawl. Also see if you can see the shaft for the pawl rotate when you move the shift lever. If it doesn't move, the problem is at the piece that attaches to the pawl, if it does rotate, then the box needs to come apart.

I'll take a look this weekend...thanks

In reality, the clutch plate hub parts exploded...no idea what would cause this other than the fact that she's 35 years old.
