Ujoint T Drum vs T3 Disc

Just curious about something. Recently picked up a very used T3 (76 w/rr disc). Pulled the swingarm to look at u-joint / carrier and all looked good. Today at MG cycle I was checking out options for joint assy's & see there is a different one for drum brake models. Lookin at the pictures the only difference I see is the drum brake one has a slightly longer "boss" on one side and matches what is in my T3 w/disc (When I pulled it out the long side was in the carrier bearing).
How do I determine if this is the correct unit and what problems are going to come about down the road if it is wrong?

Check the part number for the carrier bearing which I think they are all the same. If the bearings are the same, then I believe the cardans are interchangeable so long as the correct end goes in the carrier bearing. If I remember correctly, on the old style the thick end when into the carrier and the tapered end to the gearbox. The new cardans, both ends look the same, but one is sized to fit snug in the carrier. The change in cardan style has more to do with year of manufacture than drum or disk brake.
 
Thanks once again John. The joint seemed to fit snugly in the carrier and I saw no signs of weird wear or metal shavings in the boot so I felt pretty comfortable with it but it never hurts to ask. This T3 has been rode hard and put up wet but it is still quite a ride and another testimony to how tough Guzzis are!

The bearing and U-joint are different on the drum models vs disk. The drum bearing is OEM #92204228: (NSK 62/28 DDU)

•Width: 16 mm

The disc bearing is OEM #92204230 (FAG 6206.2RS )
•ID: 30 mm
•OD: 62 mm
•Width: 16 mm

Thanks Fred, I stand corrected.
 
Ok! And thank you for the new info. I know what to check now. The bearing is fitting snug into the housing so that much is correct. I can tell if the joint assy is correct by matching/comparing ID of bearing to OD of joint assy slip end . This will also tell me if the swing arm is a drum or disc by the bearing size. I love projects like this and it just proves what I have said for years: Most people who own tools shouldn't be allowed to use them. LOL
