Jasks the Lad
Just got it firing!
Riding my Ex Police V50 it seams to be somewhat under geared. Conventional wisdom says that this because police machines were in fact geared down to make them more suitable for use in town traffic. From the parts manual I'm told that this was achieved by fitting a primary gear set of 1:1.846 ratio (13-24) in place of the normal 1: 1.642 (14-23). The rear bevel and gearbox being standard across the range. So far so good, but 50mph at 5000rpm, that can't be right can it? Is there anyone out there with one who can tell me how fast it should be going at that rpm? From calculation I think in should be doing closer to 67mph at 5K. Just to confuse the issue, on removing the gearbox I find that a 14-23 gear set is in fact fitted. So far suggestions have been “slipping clutch” to the tachometer telling me lies. (The speedometer seem to be about right when I have had other follow me)
