Hi Guys, been a while, just wondered if some one can give some advice. I have a 1986 V50mk3 police model. I have just fitted an electronic ignition as the mechanical advance unit was worn. I think I have the timing set up correctly, its a bit awkward as there appears to be no timing marks bar 1 notch on the flywheel, this is due I think because the bike was kept outdoors for a time and the flywheel is a little rusty.
On the road the bike starts and idles fine, picks up ok but does'nt want to rev much higher than 5,500, as if it is bogging down, if you back off the throttle slightly it picks up a bit but not much, it also backfires slightly at these revs.
Now the bike was doing something similar before the electronic ignition was fitted, but I put the problem down to the worn advancer. The carbs were cleaned and appear to function ok (ie the slides rise and fall!), the valve clearances were checked, they're ok, a little noisy.
So, I think my problem is ignition related, but if anyone has any ideas please feel free
