Hi there I have just bought myself a V50 that has been stood in a warm dry garage for 10yrs, I put it in gear and tried to turn the rear wheel but I could only rock the wheel back and forwards about 3" is this motor seized or is it the shaft drive stopping it?

Hi There Lilium,
My V50 mk3 was stood for a very similar time and i feared the worst, I thought it was a good plan to remove the heads and barrels and it was absolutely fine, try removing rubber grommet from strobe / timing window on right side of engine and ease it round with a flat screwdriver in ring gear teeth or remove starter and do it through there.
Good luck, Ian (sunny Manchester UK)

It's a bit harder to turn over the engine from the back wheel with a shaft drive.
I take it that there is no kick start? Why not use the electric start? If battery is dead, you can jump start from a car battery.
Or try what Guzzi Ian suggested.

Have you removed the spark plugs? Also with the plugs out and it doesn't turn, squirt a small amount of light oil in the cylinders and let is set overnight. If piston(s) stuck that might free them. In the US we have a product called Marvel Mystery oil that works well for this.

To add my 2 cents.
Remove the spark plugs as John said.
Try using a higher gear to increase leverage.
If it does not want to move still, do what John suggested with squirting a lubricant into the spark plug holes.
I would avoid trying the starter, not that it can't work but you should be able to spin it by hand. If you can't something is wrong and I fear using the starter may only make it worse.
That is my 2 cents.

Thanks to all the info guys, I only just got the bike last night so I haven't had a chance to do anything yet. Now I am off on holiday for a week so I can't wait to get back and get her home to start playing with her. The bike is my profile picture I only paid £400 ....bargain I hope. I have all the bits to put her back to standard too! Which I will as I don't like the cafe racer seat unit.
