I bought a V65SP with 4600 original miles about a month ago. Fluids changed, including forks, and carb kit installed. Well it runs great now, ...but rides worse than a buckboard. I have tried to add air to the forks / shocks but it doesn't seem to matter, in fact, it didn't seem to take on any air. Tried to let air out - same result. Not a surprise with a 27 year old bike. I suppose I need to replace the shocks and forks/inserts. I have looked around but cannot find many options. Does anyone have suggestions for suspension upgrades for older small blocks? I do want to keep the price reasonable. It's for riding not racing.

Evidently you have the original stock Paoli air shocks. They were grotesquely oversprung from day one, meaning springs way too strong. In fact at one point I temporarily put the Paolis from the V65SP I used to own on my T3, a much heavier bike, & they actually were much better matched to that bike. Its been a while since I had my V65, can't remember what I used. Think I may have had Works Performance shocks, which were great for a few months until they started to leak gas. Can't recall what I used next, perhaps some others here can help. On the front end they do best with zero air, really. It's mainly the Paoli's out back that made the thing the torture rack you describe, so just change out back, let all the air out in front, see how that is before trying more up front, that was enough for me. Good luck.

I ordered a pair of Hagons last week and they arrived Tuesday. I ordered the shocks from Dave Quinn Motorcycles with a spring rate one step lower than stock as I weigh about 165 and seldom ride two up. I put them on Wednesday and went for a very brief ride. Major improvement. I'll be able to tell more when I have a chance to put a few more miles on them.
