Wondering if anyone else experiencing the same symptoms as me.

On the top of the seat, where it meets the tank, there is a 1/4" wide strip from top seem to top seem, that is sticky and rubs off onto your hand/finger when touched. You can see in the photo, after wiping it to see what was going on, the print/texture is gone, leaving it a darker brown. Rest of the seat is fine. My bike is parked outside work most of the day, in SoCal. I've only had the bike since February, a little over 4k miles. Kind of a bummer. Whenever quick detailer etc. is used on the paint, I always remove the seat.

The only answer I could come up with, is that the curved area of the tank that butts up against the seat, is magnifying the sun onto that part of the seat? Also wondering if MG would entertain this kind of situation as a warranty claim? Seems really premature for vinyl deterioration.

SoCal sun is brutal. Buy a bike cover for it's time sitting long in the sun.
For the seat, OCM *might* help you if you were super nice to them during the purchase. Otherwise, Piaggio will mostly deny 'wear and tear' items such as the seat unfortunately.
While I have your attention, check your email following this post.

Thanks Todd.

Looks like I'm SOL on this one, unless OCM will do me any favors. Kinda had my eye on the taller gel saddle anyway. Guess a cover is in order, regardless!

Did you ever spill fuel onto that area when filling the tank? I think it's possible that exposure to fuel might weaken or start to dissolve the "fabric".

No, never. Always super careful when fueling. I'm chalking it up to some kind of combination of the sun, and the curvature of that part of the seat. I have no other explanation. Harsh chemicals are never near the seat.

There is a guy from I think Australia that has had a V85 brown seat basically dissolve. Not sure what forum I saw it on but will get you info if I find it again.
Found it. About half way down the page: advrider.com/f/threads/moto-guzzi-v85-tt.1265870/page-882

Looks a lot more extreme than my situation, but could be headed that way as I believe the covering is the same brown vinyl. There are a few other posts making mention of seeing this same thing, always with the brown seat.
