Hi there, my first post here and sorry that I am looking for a little guidance.

My bike is 5 years old, but is truly a fair weather ride and as a consequense the bike is "new" with less than 1,000 miles. Until last night everything had been flawless until the speedo started displaying randomly and the indicators started to play up. Then this morning no indicators at all and the speedo "dead." Checking fuses, a 5A fuse had blown and I thought it was a simple fix. Nevertheless, 3 replacements later, they keep blowing. Reading around it seems that it is quite likely the speedo/tacho has given up completely and needs replacing? To my horror, they seem to cost €600 / $750, which is outragous if that is the case.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Was the outcome a new speedo? Are there any alternates, i.e. known repairs etc?

I would check the wire harness before spending big pounds on replacement components. Harness tend to fail where there is flexing or where it can rub on the frame or other metal components.

By means of a follow up; after testing the entire bike for shorts; only when disconnecting the speedo will the fuse stay intact. Reading around, a few folks have identified the same issue with the speedo. I have found a local [UK] company who will "attempt" repair. Moto Guzzi UK want £585 + fitting for a replacement, which as per my initial post is outragous!

Check with Carmo in Holland.

carmo.nl

They are the right people to properly fix your issue, not the local guys who will “attempt” it.

If it can be repaired, Carmo will tell you exactly what needs replacement and the actual cost. If it is unrepairable, they will tell you so.

Send it to the experts at Carmo.

Just thought I would post on the [hopeful] conclusion of the matter. I contacted Carmo and unfortunately they were on their summer shutdown, but they did follow on their return up saying that they might be able to make a repair but they would the need to "cut" the into the speedo to "find out." I wasn't really sure what this meant, since I myself had managed to get into the clocks very easilty. Impatient as I was to get riding again, I did two things, a) ordered a new unit from a local Guzzi dealer [with an anticipated 6-8 weeks lead time and a two grace period to cancel, since Guzzi were on their summer break!] and b) found another local company that offered repairs for any number of bike manufacturers, including for Moto Guzzi; they offered to take a look at no cost if I dropped the unit off in person, which I did. They rang me later that day saying that they had identified the problems and could fix the unit [without cutting?]. I paid for the repair and return postage and I received the clocks back yesterday and refitted them. Pleased to say, everything is working again and no fuse blowing etc. Hopefully whatever caused the original issue won't resurface. Autotronicss [Leicester UK] offered me a life-time warranty whilst I continue to own the vehicle.

I think you experienced translation variances of Dutch to English. I don't think the literally meant "cut" but rather, they would have to open it to diagnose it.

It's great that you found a competent local repairman. Not everybody is so lucky and Carmo enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide. I myself have used them with great satisfaction, hence my suggestion.

Glad you got her repaired. 👌 👍 :)
