V7 Racer / all V7's canister question

Please forgive my ignorance, but is this canister pictured from my bike on all V7's? I remember years ago, that Japanese bikes made for California had special emission canister's that were unique to the California models only. My bike is not listed as a California model. Does this canister have to remain or can it be removed? Thanks again!
 
I have removed mine, it's a charcoal canister. Make sure you plug the intake line with when you remove the hose.

The canister also gets in the way of the oil drain plug. Stupid placement if you ask me.
 
All Guzzi's imported into the USA are California compliant. They do not sell enough in the USA to justify Cali and non-Cali bikes. So they are all Cali bikes.
The canister does not normally affect things, you can leave it and it should not cause any issues. But if you are not in California then you can remove it if you want, just be sure to plug the lines that connect the canister to the intake tract and do not plug the line that connects it to the gas tank.
 
My V7R canister fell off the bike when it only had 7/10ths of a mile on it. Then the number plates, faux leather trim, fly screen, wheels, gauge cluster bracket and rear fender ;)

Do you just use a threaded plug from any hardware store? Any idea what size...got a '13 Stone.

Thanks. A lot going on in that link though. Just looking for v7 canister removal. Seems to be pretty simple though...just plug the lines and leave the one to the tank open from what I've read.
 
Yes, quite simple as you say. remove and plug the spigot from the manifold. The tank vent line also has a 'tip over valve' which should fall off as well, else you might have problems with fuel tank pressurization.
 
Does that bolt holding the canister in place need to go back in after removing the canister? I'm thinking not but want to make sure. Thank you.
 
the bracket holding the canister was attached with about a 2 1/2" bolt going into the bike. If anyone has taken their canister off they know what I'm talking about. I'm leaning towards that all it was doing was holding the canister up.
