V7 racer - chrome tank issue

Hi there !
Ihave met Tony over at A-Team M/C, although usually I check my bike in at the service dept. It seems the ONLY factory trained mechanic working there is a gentleman by the name of Ray Fisher who went over to Huntington Beach, Calif for his induction..very nice genuine older mechanic though it seems.
I'm loving the Racer and have only just turned 1700 miles on it, due to the summer heat !! Only changes made so far are bar-end Halcyon mirrors imported from the U.K. Still deliberating on the Record Kit but they are seemingly impossible to find anymore. Might order and install the chrome Stucchi engine guards soon.
BTW.. Not sure what i'll do down the road but the word is A-Team has sold out, so hopefully someone will take over the MG dealership here in Las Vegas !!

All the best , sorry for the delay in the reply..happy and safe riding !!

Todd just posted a link here https://www.guzzitech.com/forums/threads/dealer-parts-f-s-socal.12438/, which a dealer is offering the record kit for what looks like almost $500 list price. Check it out.

Those of us in California who have been living with this evaporative control system for many years have found that the one way check vent valves plug up and cause the fuel tanks to pressurize. The simple fix is to remove that one way check valve from the fuel vent line and most educated riders to this system out here in the Sacramento area also remove the evaporative control system entirely since the system have prove to be problematic. It's especially an issue with our hot/dry climate which can cause a great deal of evaporation.

What happens through evaporation inside the check valve and canister what is left behind is a greasy brown substance which plugs up the vent line check valve and or eventually given time the charcoal canister will also plug up and fail.

The drill here in Sacramento.....Buy a new bike take it home and pull all the evaporative control system off the bike. Those who are not believers quickly learn the hard way with a dead bike on the side of the road or a fuel tank that will either suck in or burst outwards. One of the tell tale signs will be cracking of the paint on the surface of the tank. The other sign is hesitation most often after fueling the bike up and leaving the gas station. Given enough pressure often that valve will clear itself out but not before it cause a great deal of pressure inside of that fuel tank.

If you remove the gas cap and hear a hissing sound you have this issue. GURANTEED take it to the bank type deal.

I replaced my tank and performed a modification that took 30 seconds, which prevented it happening again.
I posted it up here, but clearly people can't be bothered to do a bit of research.

I hear you, I tried going onto another forum Guzzi type and told those guys about it being a fuel vent line issue with the check valve and they gave me 9 kinds of hell. We've been living with these evaporative control systems out here in California for many years and most out this way remove the system because of these venting issues. At least here in Sacramento it is well known. We buy a new bike out here and the first thing we do is get it hoe and remove the evaporative systems.

Like the fix with the rubber seal, that is very simple and takes care of it. I'll remember that the next time I buy a new bike. Save me from removing all that junk.

I realize it's been 7+ years since this posting, but I can't seem to find the referenced post on the tank replacement/modification. Was it removed?
