Hello from Sussex on England's south coast.

I've had my white V7 Stone since September. I just added some Mistral pipes, mainly because the stock ones are too large and out of proportion with the bike.
This is my first Guzzi. I like V twins and bikes without chain drive. I've had a couple of H-D Sportsters and a Honda Deauville along those lines. I like the lightness of the V7.
I also own a BMW F800ST for touring etc.

The (hopefully) attached pic was taken on Good Friday at a local Italian-themed event. There were over 100 Ferraris attending, but the Stone got its fair share of attention!

Dead V7 Nr1843

Had a minor tumble ~ tank slapper at 40mph as I crossed a central white (dashed) line, bike bounced and slid along on one side. first time I have experienced this, and the first proper bike crash in 34 years.

Insurance co have rung to advise that as the repair costs are £6,200! it is a write off - take a closer a look at the picture and see if you can get to that value {true the tank is £1,200; Clocks £375; etc etc but even so). You cannot the see the fork brace which is broke or the rear shock which was forced off its lower mount by the Arrow can on impact. Even managed to chamfer the rear of the swing.

Rather sad - my 2,700miles on the bike where great.

As an aside I know it is individuals right to wear more or less what they please, but I very happy i was wearing a proper jacket with armour, kevlar lined trouser with knee armour, decent crash helmet etc all now decidedly second-hand. The main damage to me is a serious bruise on my left hand hip - the one area armour was missing - as i had borrowed it for another pair of pants. Boring but All the Gear All the Time is worth it.

Will, unfortunate news... but you being OK is most important. If they offer to sell it back to you for cheap, I may be interested in some of the parts. Is the fuel tank damaged?

Mind sending me your VIN# so I can give it a proper R.I.P. on the Registry?

Also, thanks for the posts above with VIN#'s - they've been added to the main post.

GT -RX - waiting on the final info from insurance company, so may consider a buy back - motor runs fine it's all cosmetic damage (I think).
The tank is well buggered by a) my thumb - the first tank slap squished it into the tank by the left hand bar - proper bruises, then b) then road (or could have been another of my body parts got bruises everywhere) left another sizeable dent.

Might take the money and get giddy in a nearish Italian specialist dealer MotoStrada they always seem to have something I want.

I will pass on the VIN next week- currently at the other end of England

PS guessing you are in the US? - I am in the UK so post might be a bit pricey, if I had not ruined the tank. Bit annoyed as this is the first bike I really kept shiny, also have BMW GS 1200 which lives in a permanent layer of oiley stuff - always been keener to ride than polish.

Sorry to hear about your accident, glad to hear you are OK> My other reason for replying is that I think I'm seeing a trend of V7R riders with tank slappers, I'm wondering if there really is something here or just pure coincidence? We all know the suspension on these bike is an issue, I'm starting to wonder if its actually dangerous? I know that my bike has given me the "wobbles" more often than not while taking esses at speed. did you do any suspension tuning/adjusting? check rear/front sag? I'm going to raise my fork in the triple tree the obligatory 10mm and see if that helps. I've been trying to put off a rear and front suspension re-do until winter but this rash of tank slappers amongst forum members on V7Rs is concerning.

The rear Biturbo units where set up as per the Manual, the forks where as it came from the factory not altered in the fork clamps. This was the first time I had a problem with the handling, it always felt fine when cranked over in a bend and also was ok flicking from one direction to the other. The only thing I ever noticed was a slight tendency to tramline crossing surface changes - but this is certainly no worse than my dual sport bike on knobbly tyres.

I can only conclude that as I crossed the central dashed white lines (there where two near each other almost touching as I had just passed a central painted divider - this is for guidance and you are allowed to use this part of the road in the UK, if the lines are dashed not solid) the wheel / forks /steering tramlined twice causing the head shake into tank slapper into sliding up the road on my backside.

Ah yes road paint strikes again, thanks for the reply. I'm still planning on suspension upgrades, focusing on the no-cost things (raising forks, tire pressure, rear shock adjustments) before I start dumping more cash at a solution.

I haven't seen many V7's in Anchorage since I moved up here. Here is my 2013 V7 Stone for the gallery :)

Only accessories, as of pic, are H&B 30L bags and tank/knee pads. Mistrals are on the way though! :)

Excellent, and I bet not. Thanks for the post/pic. Do I have your VIN#?

hey (eh!) capecodinsomniac, you still in Anchorage? I'm 1000 km east of you in Whitehorse.
Was down to Haines this past weekend and am thinking of a trip over to Palmer late July to visit friends.
If I do; would you be interested in a trip up Hatcher's Pass?
Yukonica.

First time rider. First time Guzzi owner. Just crossed 2000 miles after purchasing in early Feb of 2014. I couldn't have made a better decision for a first bike than my 2013 V7 Special (VIN ZGULWU010DM200142). It's been an absolute dream!
