I just took the tank off my V7ii today and wrestled out the fuel filter.. I can’t be 100% sure but it looks as though it is the original filter.. it’s the half plastic half aluminium one and it had the non-reusable hose clips..nothing looked like it had been removed on the inside of the tank or fuel pump bolts either..The fuel filter was black inside..
The bike has 29000 miles on it.. of which I, being the second owner have down about 1500 miles.
I’m wondering if it is possible that the filter was left out of the service all that time?
It has a fully stamped service history with it.. so I’m surprised..

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "...wondering if it is possible that the filter was left out of service...?"

Chances are the OEM fuel filter is one of the lucky ones that did not cause fuel delivery problems--yet. You can purchase an all-metal replacement filter from the "store" on this site complete with Oetiker clamps.

I just meant I was surprised if hadn’t been replaced as a service item at some stage..

There is no specified "service interval" for the V7II fuel filter. On my 2013 V7(I), I changed the original half-plastic filter for an all-metal filter at about 8000 mi, mostly because I read a couple reports of failures. On my 2016 V7II, I never bothered to change the original filter and put on about 33,000 mi without issue. However, I did buy a replacement all-metal filter and Oetiker clamps from the GTM web store and kept it in my luggage "just in case". My new 2021 V7 E5 presumably has the all-metal filter as OEM, but I won't know for sure until someone reports it; I have no intention to pull the pump assembly unless I need to.

i did replace mine on my 2016 V7ii using the kit i bought on this site. Do it and forget about it...
