Hi Fellows

Another VDST thread.

Well I have looked and looked, searched and search, installed and uninstalled but I can't seem to get the VDSTS Pro loaded to work on my small laptop running Windows 7 starter. The starter pack is the same as windows 7 but without some features (change background etc). I have loaded the PCV and the serial/usb drivers on and they seem to be ok even though I have not connected them to the bike.

I have loaded the PCV VDSTS and serial USB converter unto my office/work laptop and that seems OK even though I have not yet tried it connected to the bike either. This runs Windows Vista.

But on the small laptop I want to use in the shed with the bike, PCV installs OK. The Serial/USB software installs OK but when I try to install VDSTS, it installs but when I try to run it (yes, with the security usb key) firstly it loads up but the opening screen does not have the TECHNORESEARCH name on the screen. It also asks for the "language" and I hit "English" then a windowscomes up saying " driver not installed". I can't remember exactly what steps I took to successfully install it on the large laptop but I don't think I am doing anything different. I am using the Windows XP/2000 files from the install disk because I can't see and specific files for Windows 7 even though I have seen other posts by guys saying they are running that OS.
Any ideas?
Do I need an update for the Windows 7?
Do I need a big hammer?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Allan,
I'm tempted to say ..... the hammer.
Just kidding!!!!
For what I know the Window 7 Starter operating system is used for Notebooks (Web surfing, e-mails) ...... not like Laptops.
If you get a message " driver not installed" that means that the W7 starter software does not have the program to communicate with a USB/Serial rs232 port ...... even then I'm not sure that a Notebook can be upgraded to W7 ..... because of it's CPU and hardware limitations (capabilities).

You mentioned that you installed the VDST on a Laptop that operates with regular W7 (NO ERRORS?) ..... then try communication with that one ..... should work.

Cheers

Thanks Dan for the input but I seem to have worked it out. Didn't need the hammer. I am over the moon bearing in mind that I have the computer skills of a brick.

The office laptop worked from the outset as mentioned. The other two (Desktop/Vista and small laptop/Windows7 starter) didn't. Now they do. I got into the VDST files as installed and saw that the driver file for the "key" was listed. I ran that program and it all seems to work, at least on the laptops. I haven't tried connecting to the bikes yet that'll be a day or two.
Therefore it seems the office laptop installed the driver for the key automatically but the others needed to have the driver/key programme run manually. Anyway, subject to connecting to the bikes it seems fine.
Thanks again

Allan, good... usually all it takes is for the correct driver and/or com port.

I had a bunch of trouble loading the drivers.. I have a mac partitioned with windows XP where I have the VDST software.. I went thru all kind of hassle until I plugged in the bike then started up the software, everything was there and then it prompted me to insert disc w/drivers on it. so it all works fine for me now.. have you tried opening the program with the bike plugged in?
