That's as bad as aviation.

I was advised by multiple "specialists" that reusing "stretch bolts" isn't a good idea.
Had dinner with an old friend tonight, who made parts for the shuttle. He agreed that new ones were the right way to go.
Of course I'm the dude footin the bill.

At least the market was up today...

Some one please enlighten us youngin's as to what that is and why it costs so much?

I won't steal Toner's thunder here....

But in non-mechanical terms it's like counting how many folks ahead of you in line for the bungee jump....

Could you also explain to this old geezer what is a stretch bolt and what are you using them for :? :?:

Cheap at twice, no, make that four times the price.

Consider the alternative if you were to use those crappy chrome-plated grade-5 Chinese bolts.

Here's a better explaination than I could give:

http://www.precisionenginetech.com/...measuring-connecting-rod-bolt-stretch-part-1/

The old bolts were no longer consistant. The stretch and associated torque varried too much between bolts (Gromm mentioned "old underwear"...).

It sure was a shocker when I saw the credit card bill. I was told they would be expensive but I failed to ask the price when ordering.

Sometimes I feel uncomfortable trying to differentiate a salesman's technical explaination from snake oil (or is that fish oil today?).

How typical are Guzzi rod failures? I understand that the Guzzi rod nut is not to be re-used. The prices (~$4 to $9 @) are outta sight as well but do they fail? Has anyone experienced a failure of a properly installed Guzzi stud/nut?

The Carrillo's sure are sexy though. I think when I am over this racing thing, I'll make a helmet ornament out of them. I'm sure the Betty's will dig that.

Alex

so 6$ vs 161$ ?
I hope you are pushing that engine to its upper limits.

To infinity... and beyond!!!!

So to speak.

Ya know it's like buying insurance. I hope the most use I will get out of it will be improved sleep at night.
