Is it just me who has noticed that the has the sky is falling 8 valve hysteria has run it's course ?

I spent some quality time today attempting to adjust the valves on my Griso after 3000 carefree hard miles. I thought it prudent to see if any thing since the last inspection has changed and it turned out to be an exercise in futility. IE. I left them as I found them SPOT on.

Gawd I love this Bike and Motor !

That's the best kind of wasted time!

I check my Breva valves at 6k miles and seldom do I have to adjust more than two valves - and find them slightly off spec. The Aprilia/Guzzi motors are great. I hope Piagio keeps producing the 2V motors. I doubt they would use a 2V for a new Le Mans, but they should and offer the 4V as an option. The 4Vs are great but I like the simplicity of the 2V and the lack of the whirling noise -the sound reminds me of my friends BMW RT.

The 'Simplicity' aspect is really a bit overstated. As far as every day maintenance is concerned the difference between a 2 valve motor and a 4 valve motor is, well???? the time it takes to do four valves!!!!

I like just about everything about the 8V apart from the dreadful mechanical racket mine makes. More recent versions are a LOT quieter than mine though. I always wear ear plugs though and they seem to filter out the racket well. Throttle body ballance is a breeze and takes less time and effort than carbs or earlier FI systems and even the 8V norge is easly accessible for all aspects of servicing!

I really don't know what there isn't to like? Yes some early ones had problems due to poor manufacturing and assembley. Most didn't. Most of the problems seem to be concentrated in one or two markets that are world rekowned for having crap management at importer level. I'm sure the two are connected. Just look at then poor Spanish bloke who had his tappets fail and they were replaced, in 2011!!!! with another set of early type tappets!!!

I mean how many levels of inspection must the parts have gone through before they ended up in his bike and nobody picked up the physical diffences or even the fact they had the wrong part number!!!!!!

Took you 2 hours to find out you didn't need to mess with the valves??
That's never a waste ;) .
It took Draid 2 hours to discover some parts on his bike.
He spend 2 hours feeling, learning and lovin his bike.
I did this twice at the valves and I can say:
The left exhaust valves are on 0.16 and .0165 mm, the right exactly the same play.
Intake all 0.11 or 0.115 mm...
I work quite precise... B)
Invest in your bike and he will return a damn good feeling back to you :woohoo: .

Takes me longer than 2 hours to find things I didn't know existed.

Yesterday, got a late start, but cleaned off the rear shock and put on one of these: http://www.traxxion.com/ventedshocksock.aspx. Will put on a Skidmarx hugger today. Might be, as John Z wondered, redundant, but my next task is to pull the Norge's rear shock for a rebuild, so I'd rather overdo it than not.

Was surprised at how HEAVY the stock can is. Sure like its sound, don't mind its looks as much as do many (and, as I once did), and losing some of my own weight would be cheaper  , but surely the after-market choices are lighter.

So, after another cup of coffee, I'll head back down to the garage, and "waste" the rest of this lazy, cold day in Milan.
