What brake fluid?

Probably a stupid question! I did a search through the manual and this forum and although I found many references to brake fluid, I couldn't find anything about what kind of brake fluid. Is it just any brand of DOT 4 brake fluid? Is automotive the same?

DOT4 or the new DOT 5.1 (not 5.0). Any new, unopened DOT4 will be an improvement over what is currently in there. I have ordered ATE in the past but last flush just got Castrol synthetic from the local store. Don't forget the clutch.

Agreed.....any brand will do. I use Motul 5.1. Just look for one with the highest boiling point (but don't us 5, our brakes are not designed to run Dot 5). Some brands 5.1 actually have lower boiling points than better brands 4 so read the labels. No difference between automotive and motorcycle....just marketing.
