so I'm going to Italy this fall. Have to go to an academic conference at a swanky beachfront resort in Sardinia. Damn, life sucks. My pretty younger 2nd wife has invited herself along, since she's never been to Italy. So we're going to hire a bike for 17 days. That's noleggia in italiano. And I'd like to rent something that we can take on the dirt roads that lead to the hiking trails and out-of-the-way spots...

So... do I rent a Stelvio or a Caponord? Obviously we're a biased group here, anyone have any experience with both??

Does anyone have any good info about Italian bike-hire outfits? In autumn 2007, I rented a Breva V11 from Francesco of CIMT in Roma (liked it so much I bought a B11 in 2009). But Francesco is only renting beemers now. And beemers are ubiquitously everywhere, like snowflakes in a Canadian winter or mosquitoes in a canadian summer.

So...???

Personally, I rent bikes to try something new. Got an F800R in Tokyo and a HD Fat Bob in Brisbane when I had a V-Strom 650. Since you already know the big block CARC, I would not bother with a Stelvio (easy for me to say as I have one).

I'd look for a Ducati Multistrata or Hyperstrada, a new Caponord, maybe a new R1200ST or K1600GTL for a change of pace. Sounds like a great trip, enjoy and post up some pictures!

The obvious one is Agostini, just down the road from the factory.

I rented a Breva 1100 back in 2006 when I attended the GMG gathering for that year. Bike was well maintained, and everything worked out. Alice even managed to forward a €330 speed camera ticket I managed to trigger -now that's efficiency!!
