My 2023 v85tt with 9k mi deposited this screw on the ground below the kickstand/foot peg. I heard it ding on the skid plate on the way to the ground.

It is a 4x12 with a size 20 Torx head as best as I can measure. I've looked through the exploded views online and haven't seen that size anywhere.

Does anyone have an idea about where it could be from?

Could it be an M5 size? If so, there's a few of them scattered around the bike as per this parts diagram.

As it is a torx head screw, it will be in a location not intended to be remove normally. Perhaps a bracket holding something like a relay or other such thing.

That was my frustration as I too found some M5. It's definitely a 4 which I couldn't find on any diagram. And my trying to find a missing screw on the bike was even more frustrating. 🤬

On the V7 850 the plastic battery retainer is attached to the frame with 2 Torx screws. You might check that location on your 85TT.

You're thinking the screw for the license plate lighting?
LOL, sorry about that. I just searched the parts diagram for Torx and that was one that popped up in the correct size. I honestly didn't pay too much attention to which part it was, my apologies .

Yes.

There is the very real possibility, as all Moto Guzzi motorcycles are hand built in the same room since 1921, that during assembly, it fell out of the hands of the assembler and into the mostly assembled motorcycle someplace that wasn’t readily visible. They would not waste time looking for it.

It simply could have finally freed itself enough to fall away.

It is hard to see in your photo but it appears to be pretreated with a locking compound. If so, and there is no damage to that coating, then the screw was never inserted anywhere and is almost certainly as I have postulated here.
