Hi guys, looking to add a GPS unit to my Eldorado and so far I've found 3 empty wiring connectors. One is next to the battery and two under the front of the tank, can anyone tell me what they are for and what sort of connectors they are so I can try and get the equivalent half or is it easier to cut the connector off and use a couple of bullet connectors. Also while we are at it what is the braided line that runs next to the battery. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Ditto. Looking at doing this as well with a Garmin GPS not the Tom Tom that the bike is prewired for. The connectors should be available, the look like ones they use on solar panels they put on caravans.

Thanks Roscoe, so does that mean a Tom Tom will plug straight in?

Hi John,
Yeah I think so. All it means though is that the power plug on the Tom Tom plugs straight in to the Guzzi wiring harness so that when you turn on the ignition the Tom Tom comes on as well. I have a Garmin 660 on my Aprilia Caponord and I just put in an ignition controlled relay and powered the GPS from that. I'm going to put a new Garmin GPS on my new Calli so will try to get a matching connector to go into the Guzzi wiring harness.

Thanks mate. Looks like you're not far from me, I'm just up at Meadows, did you get the Cali from Garage at Strath?

I wanted a Black one so they arranged it from Sydney. I think it is one of the last new black ones in Oz. We will have to catch up. I will send you a PM with my number once I work that out. I rode through Medows today on a Ulysses ride. Spoke to a bloke who knows you, he has just bought a 73 Eldo from the States, Kim is his name.

I was just looking at the photos, saw your Cali there, couldn't make the ride today, Kym's a great guy, small world eh? Off to Tassie with him in 3 weeks for Ulysses AGM.

Look at the post GPS Installation. Try around page 6

It covers the points your interested in and gives a BMW part number you can use to connect to the existing GPS wiring hidden at the front.

Thanks mate, just what I was looking for.

John,

The green one is for your GPS. I use a Garmin Zumo 550, so I just cut off the OEM connector and spliced my GPS wires in.

Or it could be the diagnostics connector. The heated seat one normally clips on top of the battery lid, the diagnostics one is loose.

Hi Dave, this one is normally clipped to the lid with a cap on it, I pulled it off to photograph it

John L...the steel braided line is the bleed line for the ABS module. It is used when flushing the brake fluid. IT IS NOT ELECTRICAL! nor is it an air fitting for the (non existent) air shocks...

Really? I had assumed it was for bleeding the clutch hydraulic system, as per the CARC bikes.

But can find no documentation to support either thinking. Are you able to quote a source?

Ok now you have me second guessing myself...The service manual ABS diagram shows no bleeder hose coming off the module. But I could have sworn that I read that was for bleeding the notoriously hard to bleed ABS module. Where I read it is now a mystery.
Your thoughts on the hydraulic clutch seem more plausible now as that would follow the company line more accurately. But again, nothing in the service manual to prove that out either....
I am willing to stand corrected if anyone has some verifiable intel on the braided steel line......

Yeah, and I cannot see any reference to the clutch bleed either. Who's going to be first to crack it open and see which operation produces fluid out the end?

Hi guys, I can confirm the braided hose is indeed the bleed line for the clutch, I've used it to bleed mine on more than one occasion (it seems to accumulate air from somewhere?..)
The connector clipped to the TOP of the battery cover is the redundant feed for the unavailable heated seat.
Though it is a working (12v live when the ignition is on) due to possible CANbus issues I would be wary of using it..
The smaller connector UNDER the battery cover is the ECU connection.
There is a dedicated live feed for a GPS under the left hand cover in front of the tank.
Hope that helps.

Jon.
