So I have been playing with a 7x33 rear gear set in my 2004 EV.
Since I often tow a camper, I like the idea. Add in the fact that the original splines at over 110,000 miles, are a bit worn.
So I read the manual. It doesn't make sense. And I read the manual and read the manual. I want to know exactly what I am doing here, as I have never shimmed a rear drive before. It sure is confusing.
So I buy the gears. Play with the shimming, buy some shims, play with the shimming. This is goofy and does not make any sense. But it has to be right, it is in the shop manual for the 2004 EV after all.....
WAIT.
I dig out an older SP manual. DUH! It totally makes sense. The manual for the EV has the illustration numbered wrong. The instructions for the SP shimming are exactly what you would expect.
Below is a clip out of the EV shop manual. This is WRONG.
