I used the code 34534 to reset the icon at the 6000 mile mark. I just ignored it at the 12000 mile point. Now I'm at 18000, and thought I would reset today. Guess what? It won't reset. Tried 3 times. Hasn't been to a dealer since new. Do I have another issue?

Thats a new one on me. The code is correct I've reset five times but never skipped a reset.
Thanks. Maybe I need to do a complete reset (leave the + lead off the battery a bit). But you've obviously been around the block. Any other issues you can think of that might cause a Service icon? This bike has been in storage for the last year with a tender on the battery. Fired right up after getting it shipped to Maryland from Texas. Runs fine, albeit it's noisy... ;-)

Far as I know it's only the service interval icon. They are noisy but it's easy to recheck the valves, I usually have someone help me while I hold the feeler gauge as I left them pretty loose one time doing it alone.

I have had a few electronic gremlins that an ECU disconnect cured. Put some dielectric grease on the connections when you do, got a little moisture in there once with an ill-advised power wash.

Did you do the 'Reset Coupon' step?

toggle to the "MENU" and press the toggle button (left thumb)
look for "SERVICE" and toggle there and press toggle button
TO ENTER THE CODE:
five dashes _ will come up on the screen
the FIRST dash will show a 1 and then a 2 when it gets to 3 press the toggle button
The display will switch to the SECOND dash_ and begin counting again
Press the toggle button as each successive dash_ scrolls through the number sequence
once 34534 is entered you have access to the SERVICE MENU
toggle to the RESET COUPON and press the toggle button
NO MORE WRENCH

Guess what? You were absolutely correct. Golden, and passed a Maryland State Inspection with flying colors, nary a snag. I've done a couple of these intra-state moves and registrations over the last 30 years. Easiest one so far. Thanks again...

Jim

Where in MD? It's where I grew up. Change your City, State in your profile. ;)
You swapped one coast for another, eh? We lived in San Juan Capistrano back in the 1980's. Wish I'd had this Cali 1400 Custom back then. Sunday drives on the Ortega Canyon Highway would've been a lot more fun...

Anyway, in Pasadena, Maryland now. Anne Arundel County (Annapolis is down the street so to speak). Yeah, I need to change my location both here, over on WildGoosechase, and the MGNA page. We moved from Texas last summer. Thanks for the reminder...
