Yet another case of a rattling Stelvio

Although I've read the forum for a few years now, until now I haven't had reasons to post a message. So first of all; Hi. I'm a Guzzi enthousiast from the Netherlands. My Guzzi career includes the 1100 Breva, the 1200 Sport and currently a 2008 1200 Stelvio 4V: best bike so far. Nevertheless, I'm considering an upgrade to an optically in mint condition, 2009 Stelvio NTX ABS (55.000 km) that I found online. During the test drive I noticed a rattling noise from the engine, that occurs only with engaged clutch in first gear between 3000-3500 rpm (regardless of warm/cold). Spark plugs are brand new, valve clearance and chain tension checked (both ok).

Also, accelerating feels as if the engine is holding back slightly. Just not as smooth and powerful, compared to my current Stelvio. The NTX is 'embellished' with an aftermarket silencer (Zard) and has a corresponding custom mapping (both installed professionally).

Even after reading all topics mentioning noises, I have no clue what could be the issue here. What are your thoughts?

What you are asking is IMPOSSIBLE to diagnose over the internet. Anybody who says otherwise is lying to themselves.

Take the motorcycle to a competent mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection. If you cannot do that, I would walk away.

Good Luck!
