I have a 07 Griso. I tried to start it up the other day and got a fizzle sound and "clunk" I thought the battery
lost a load. I did clean the terminals.( I just took it off the 1.25 amp Battery tender charger)
I took the battey to a mechanic and he load tested the battery. Everything O.K I brushed
off a lot of the green tarnish from the neg. battery cable. Could just a tiny bit of corrosion/tarnish
cause a short?
Could a Oddysey charger @ 3 amps (6 taper) over charge the batttery and give false readings?

I've seen battery chargers fail to regulate voltage and max out the charging voltage, it maxed at 14.8VDC... if it's constantly charging at 3A, that'll cause a problem. Trickle chargers regulate float voltage and amperage, you could use a 3A charger.. it's just overkill.

I use a 1.5A Yuasa trickle charger. No problems so far..

I had the exact same experience on Monday with my '09 G12. When I tried to start the bike in the morning it clunked and died. I shut the bike off and cycled the sidestand switch and the kill switch and the bike fired.

When it came time to go home the bike had been sitting in the cold for 8 hrs and no amount of monkey motion would get it going.

Today I brought my battery charger and multimeter with me (via subway!!!) and charged the battery. With the battery reading 13+ it was the same story: Clunk!

I pulled off the negative battery wire and there was gunk galore. I wire-brushed it and cleaned it with WD-40, reassembled and the bike fired instantly.

I have heard that people coat their battery terminals with vaseline. Is there a better product?

Vaseline, chassis grease, anything that will prevent oxygen getting to the terminals is the objective.

It was the green tarnish on the neg. terminal. I intalled the battery a 2nd time and smoke came off the Neg post with
a fizzle sound. I took the battery to a mechanic and did a load test. All O.K. I brought the battery back
home and did a filing and wire brush clean up and a baking soda/vinegar mix. Then more filing. It got more green tarnish off and I installed the terminals.
It fired right up! thank god, I thought the battery was a lemon. Goes to show, bring a 10mm wrench, a phillips
head screwdriver and some files when you go riding. I could have been stuck 30 miles in the middle of no where!
