8V Norge: metallic rattling, maybe the collector box?

My Norge has long experienced a metal on metal rattling under acceleration, sounds like it is under the engine. When I was in for my 18k service, the mechanic noted that the collector box had split on the seam, and we had it welded up at a nearby exhaust shop (stainless steel welding I believe). Somewhere in that process the rattling went away, but at 22k miles it is back with a vengence.


Given that it is summer and the mechanic is several weeks out, and I may need to order parts, I ask: how likely is it that the rattling is the collector box? Or asked another way, how likely am I to be purchasing a Y Pipe from Todd in the near future? ;)
 
Just get the Y pipe. If the rattle goes away, great, if not you have eliminated a possibility. With the Y you may get a rattle at Idle with that pipe at certain exhaust temperatures, but it goes away when completely hot.
