Just curious if anyone else has had this problem, and what if anything you were able to do about it. I’ve lost track of how many retaining rings for the db-killers in my Agostini reverse carbon cone mufflers have broken, but I think probably five or six. I am attaching here pictures of the current state of things, where you can see the left one is cracking and the right one has already broken.

Sometimes I am able to catch it as in this instance before they and the dB killer fall out, but I’ve lost two of the db-killers in the past and had to replace them.

I have written to Agostini, who have sent me new retaining rings, but they don’t seem to have any ideas about the permanent solution. Better made retaining rings would seem to be the most obvious solution, but I simply haven’t been able to find the right size anywhere but through them.

It’s all very annoying…

I bought a set of very slightly used ones for my 16 V7II. I now see why Todd calls them a POS! The rings are a Micky Mouse idea. In addition mine cracked completely around where the pipe starts to expand in size to get to the actual muffler. I will never buy theirs again.

Hmm, I never heard they were a POS.. Other than the issue with the c-clips I have to say I like mine a lot, in terms of both looks and sound. Of course, if the pipes themselves start falling apart on me I’ll be singing a different tune!

So will your bike! :D
