Last year I posted a How Fast post, I was about to attend our local club Drag day in Opunake, NZ. It was unfortunately cancelled due to rain, they moved the date forward this year and yep it rained agin but we did run. First run was with a soggy road, I recorded a 11.81 sec for the standing 1/4 mile. As the day dried out and I had more time to think about what I was doing, I got slower, worst was 13.03, did 4 runs all up.
The night before all the talk at the club was about the V Rod vs Victory Octane battle about to happen, the Guzzi wasn't even mentioned for some reason, the best the wasp crew could do was 12.02 and the Octane 13.? fastest Harley was 11.54. Best Overall 1098 = 10.74. I am stoked, not bad for a weighty cruiser with fat arse Corban seat, floor boards and a carrier. I will be constantly reminding my mates for the next year.

Outstanding!

I run a V7 Sport in Land Speed Racing, here in the states. Similar to drag racing, but top speed not elapsed time.

Sounds like your bike is running well. In my case, I just need a little more power... heh heh

Let us know about the next runs.

Alex

I am not clear about this. What was YOUR best time on your California. And, what was the best time of the day overall?

11.81 was my first and best time, surprised everyone including me, I guess it was due to the wet track so steady take of and just wound it on. Best overall was a Ducati 1098 which did 10.74, the best Harley was 11.54 and that bike is worked to the max. Hope that clears things up.

Yes, thanks.

Interesting results. My cali witch enjoys the benefits of Todd's full fuel mods, open air box and gutted cats and mufflers does run very well but it will not hold a candle to my completely stock '14 V-rod Muscle. Acceleration or top end. My plan later this year is to take the V-rod and my mildly tweaked Griso to the track. I really suspect the Griso will take it.

I ride with 2 v rods, they, I would have thought would be better on the strip, the best they did was 12.3 and believe me they were trying, and there maybe is the secret of dragging, the harder you try the slower you seem to get. I am no expert but that seems to be the way of it. i also have Todds fueling , full exhausts{ but I did have my home made short shots on, about 12 " straight slip ons, only used to make more noise than Harleys] opened box, running RedLine oil.
Usually I am in touch with the V rods on the road but they have better top end, corner about the same. Let us know how you get on on the track day, have fun.

One of my (several) bikes was a Vrod. Pipes, tuning, suspension...in a straight line, it was fabulous. (If it had had a 6th gear, I probably wouldn't be here to write this). What it wasn't was a great handling bike in the "twisties".

While I could make a good go of it, I wasn't comfortable doing it and neither was the Vrod. It always felt like it would prefer to be going in straight line toward the nearest object of mass destruction.

While a Vrod might hammer a 1400 in a straight line on top end, I'm pretty sure a 1400 would return the favor in the twisties. At the very least, it would make an imminently more enjoyable ride.

But then again, I'm older, don't bounce as good as I used to, and therefore less inclined to seek out near death experiences.

Wow, 11.81 on a stock 1400? That's quite sporty. I find this engine really comes alive in the upper rev range. It seems bored chugging along, then you get it over 4,500 and the Italian wakes up.
