Just got it firing!
Hi folks. Some great posts on here. Looking forward to being part of the community over here in the UK.
I had my heart set on a BMW R1250RS and then had a test ride on one. I Loved it. So much power and torque, and so much more obviously available from that silky smooth boxer engine. Amazing TFT and electronics and so intuitive to use. The following day I had a test ride for an hour on a "base" V100. By the end if the ride I was grinning from ear to ear. OK, so in so many ways it falls short of the standards set by the Beemer but what it did have was character by the bucketload. I was sold and knew then that was what I wanted.
I'm still undecided about the screen, I may see how I get on before investing in a larger one but I really want to keep the wind off my helmet if possible. I'm thinking something like the Biondi (smaller?) which in the lower position will be about similar to the stock screen in the higher position, although from what I've seen here the Isotta may be the better option as being thicker it should be less flimsy. I'm about 5'10". I have ordered the MG full engine bars and USB for dash so I can charge my phone in a tank bag. The centrestand will have to be ordered if I decide I need it but I may be able to source and fit one myself - cheaper too. I had originally been thinking about the panniers but then realised that as I will be fitting a topbox (probably Givi V58) and have a tankbag I can probably manage without the extra capacity which will cost nearly £1000 and will spend most of the time just taking up room in the garage. I have a trip to Spain & France with my brother (on his newly acquired BMW R1250R) in planning for September at the moment and am starting to wonder if the extra capacity may be useful if we stop somewhere and don't want to be walking round in all our gear. So many things to consider! I have a couple of other items on my wish list - radiator guard and long fender extender, probably from Pyramid here in the UK. I just wish the did the "S" with the gold wheels.
I can't wait to get on it.
