Took the Norge in yesterday for the new front and rear springs from Hyper-pro to be fitted. Front ones done but rear, the bolts have seized. They have said they have put lots of fluid to try and free up. Took it out for a quick spin last night and what a difference just putting the fronts in, handles much better now. Hopefully get the rear done soon also then should be sorted for a trip to the GP in Netherlands in September.............................Thats of course providing the bolt comes out :D

One of the best penetrating fluids is actually home made. Prepare a solution of acetone and automatic transmission fluid. Mix ratio is equal parts. I've had some experience with it lately restoring an antique car. Good luck.

Took the norge back other day for a retry and now they are saying the shock has had it.

Have 2 options remove and have it refurbished 100 pounds and they will fit new spring for nothing. Have to send it off with a turn around of about 5 days. I have to take it off but not quite sure how yet

Or. Spend 350 pounds and get a new hyper pro or 300 for another make

I hadn't thought about the Sachs shock being rebuildable. If so, can someone provide me with the source for the rebuild components? Or is this something I can find in the 1200 Sport Parts Manual? (I'll look there, too)

EDIT: I checked the 1200 Sport Manual and the shock is listed as a single unit ... no breakout for internal parts.

So, back to original question .... if it can be rebuilt, what's the source for the parts?

Yes, the suspension is the weak link on almost every new Guzzi outside of the new Cal 1400. It's been well covered here... A fork spring kit (I offer the Matris Kit >CLICK HERE<) and a new rear shock will transform the bike from a mushy handful, to something that will dance on it's tires with little effort, and extreme confidence.

Trust me when I say save your money and invest in a new shock. While the stock *could* be rebuilt by a knowledgable suspension specialist, the cost would be close enough to just replace it with a higher-end custom built shock to your specs. The 8900 Penske (below) is ~$650; https://www.guzzitech.com/store/produc ... pathway-16 -- if you feel as though you must have a pre-load adjuster, you can send them yours and they will incorporate it. Contact me direct for more details; Todd at GuzziTech.com

+1 what Todd said.
Been down all roads with my Bellagio, std shock unsatisfactory for my needs.
Bought a 2nd hand Griso shock because it had compression adjustment etc.
Had it modified with spring and re-valve, improvement was noticeable but still not satisfactory.

So I bit the bullet and bought a Matris R, my original investment which was about 50% of the Matris is now just another memory of wasted time effort and money. Wisdom doesn't always come cheap.

I bought the Matris R from a forum member unused and still in the box. Got it for a good price.
Because previous owner was heavier I needed to buy a lighter spring - $200 in Australia.
Then because the valving was still giving a slightly harsh ride I needed to have the internals massaged a little.
Another $350. Got it back yesterday, hope to ride on the weekend.

So another lesson learnt trying to be a tight arse. It would have been quicker easier and cheaper if I just bought one direct from Todd set up for me, 12 months ago.

The handling, the turn in, the precision the bike now has is absolutely unbelievable, I'm just chasing a little compliance and comfort for our extremely rough roads, .................. so my next ride will be interesting.

Ps. My suspension guru says if I ever intend to go racing, keep the shock. Internally it is a work of art with infinite tunability.

I ride often 2 up so I need that adjuster knob. When my adjuster bust the refurb guys Brooks said they couldn't fix that part. Other springs eg Hagon use a c-spanner to adjust a collar but it must be hard to adjust insitu on a Breva/Norge etc. I went for a second hand oem so I can have soft solo and hard 2 up just go to remember not to screw it to far this time.

I have a 2011 Norge, I know the 2nd gen Norge got new suspension and indeed I find it rides and handles very well. I'm about 200 lbs (90 kg) and solo the handling is great. Add a passanger and bags, crank the rear spring and damper and it still rides and handles great. Way easier to handle than my 1150GS plus Ohlins.

I'm over 18k miles now, thinking I'll have the Sachs rebuilt when the time comes. Forks are holding out pretty well, I'll assume they need rebuilding at 24k miles.

I have little seat time on the N8V, but I can state that with custom suspension upgrades, you won't believe it's the same bike. Beware that a rear shock rebuild will come close to a new shock price. If you don't think so, try it and see. You'll wish you hadn't. For the forks, the Matris FM100KE is a damn good upgrade. Impressively so.

Yes, I'll see when the time comes. I really need the remote adjuster for the rear shock. I've owned Ohlins, so I know good suspension costs $$$, needs regular maintenance, and can transform the bike.

Have you tested the Matris gizmo on the new gen Norge? I'll ask my mechanic, I think they installed one for a customer a year or two ago.

The new 8V, no. I have sold just one kit, which I'll try to get them to post on it here. This kit on the 1200 2V is quite amazing. Rafael hopefully will comment on it, as he put a set in a Breva 1100.

Your web site says that the Matris FM100KE is only for 2/4v Guzzis, not the 4/8v models. What do you have for the current gen Norge?
