Le Mans II smoking conumdrum...

Glad the prognosis is looking good Clive.

I don't know why but IME the older bikes seem to need a few re-torques. Just keep doing it until it settles.

Thanks too for the feedback. I like to know how things turn out.

Cheers

I know this post is old, but was there ever a definitive conclusion to this saga? My 850 recently started doing this exact same problem, blue smoke from the left side. In some cases it only lasted for a few minutes, in one case it left a trail of thick blue smoke for several kms after startup. Most embarrassing. Just as I prepared to order some head gaskets the problem stopped, not even a puff of blue on startup.

If you've read through this entire post , you'd know his problem was due to not having re-torqued the heads as
often as is necessary . My Le Mans 2 always required 2 and sometimes 3 re-torquings with the stock gaskets . Long ago
had a machinist make me copper head and base gaskets . Haven't needed re-torquing since, 250K kilometers. Peter

thank you Peter, I read the entire post twice but didn't feel that the matter was settled. I have no idea of my bike's history, but should I retorque the head gaskets as is, or should I replace the head gaskets and start from there? Appreciate the copper suggestion.

Re-torque first. If that doesn't take care of the issue, then replace the head gasket and the 4 o-rings. Remember if you do replace the head gasket, you will need to re-torque several times.
