Just got it firing!
Not to start another endless tire thread, but I have to give these tires some major props, especially considering the price point ( $78 front / $85 rear delivered.) I ride off-pavement a lot and was looking for a decent 50-50 tire for the bike. I have worn out countless sets of Tourances, TKC-80's, and Heidenaus on my various GS's over the years - all good tires in their own ways, but man have all three gotten expensive lately! I have always been aware of the Shinkos, they have been a favorite among the BMW AirHeads (aka "poverty riders") for along time, but wasn't aware they had started making dual sport tires. Long story short I put a set of the 705's on earlier this summer and was immediately impressed. Quiet, confident handling on the street, and a big difference off pavement over the stock Pirellis. I took the NTX on a pretty severe off-pavement thrashing around Central Idaho (Nez Perce GS ride) and finished up with the Magruder Corridor. I'm at about 4500 miles and the rear still has life, while the front looks like it will last through another rear. Sold! BTW they make a more aggressive knobby, looks very similar to the TKC-80. Will try these next summer! and yes, made in Korea, but you'd be amazed at how many of the legacy brands are made in China now… I'll take Korea any day!
