Although the NTX has hard bags and thus lots of storage room I thought it would be nice to have a dedicated storage box for tools and other dirty/greasy stuff. The PVC tubes are one popular idea but, having too much time on my hands, lots of scrap aluminum, and a TIG welder....

More photos...OK:

The box tapers from rear to front because the frame mounts are not parallel to the ground.

My aluminum stock is much thicker than what the locks were made for so I had to do some milling.

The box is about 4.25" wide so it still clears the suspension at full compression.

You do know there is a serious problem with that.

You didn't make one for me to run a thorough test on. :woohoo:

Kirb (John Kirby) on Adv Rider is my candidate for making a bunch of these. I have offered mine as a prototype. John has connections with lazer cutting, milling, and bending technology. I got a stainless rear rack from him and it is a beautiful piece of work. Recommend you all pile on and bug him to run off a batch. Just a thought.

Very nice work, any idea how much it weighs?
I'm guessing it's about 2-3 lbs. This is about what a tube would weigh if you used schedule 40 PVC, end cap, and clean-out. If Kirb does one he will be able to get the weight down a bit by using thinner aluminum and bending it rather than welding all the seams. I used scrap aluminum that happened to be tempered so I can't bend it into shape.
