TPS / autolearn reset hot or cold

I know (and have experience) that a tps/autolearn reset is beneficial to the rideability on the single Throttle Body bikes as recommended by Todd.

However, does it make any difference if the engine is hot or cold?

I ask because I've come back from a ride and felt that a reset was needed, but wasn't able to do it immediately on getting home.

I'd like to do the reset before I go out again, ie bike cold, but not sure if that would be a problem

I couldn't see anything in my search that helped with this question

Cheers

Tris

It is always beneficial if you understand exactly what something is.

Briefly…A TPS reset is an electrical ECU alignment of the fuel injection table, to the physical characteristics of the throttle body. It aligns the table with the ZERO position of the throttle as it rests against the throttle stop as Steve noted above.

Therefore, it really is unaffected if the engine is warm or cold.

The important part is to as Steve says, open the throttle cable fully and let it *SNAP* back closed so you are sure you hear it click against the throttle stop.

If your throttle tube sticks in any way, shape, or fashion, it is imperative that you rectify this issue first before completing a TPS reset. If you do the reset and the throttle is not fully closed against the stop, the table will be out of alignment with the throttle body physical characteristics and the bike will run wonky.

Scott, I in a roundabout way knew all that but you have clarified things - thanks
I should have thought back at what I had to do to get the "sacred screw" on my Breva 1100 close to where it should be before the PO messed it up!!
That was on the back of work done by Kev in NZ IIRC
The saying "Standing on the shoulders of giants" is very apt in these matters and I thank all of them
You just need a functioning BS detector for the not so giant "experts" that frequent the Internet?
Thanks again both
