Last year I bought a 2017 V9 Roamer. I’m just getting back into riding. My newest motorcycle up to now was a 1984 Honda Magna V30.
I had no idea that buying a bike with one key would be a problem. I ordered a blank key, had it cut by a locksmith, took the V9 to a dealer to get a second key, and of course they couldn’t without the code, which previous two owners of my bike didn’t have.
Thanks for the explanation I couldn’t get anywhere else.
I’m not mechanical, but it looks like the single round dash on the V9 should not be too hard to remove. Anyone have a heads up how to remove without screwing up?
I’ll have to send it overseas.

Did you try the last five digits of the VIN? I had basically the same situation and it worked for me. Seems like its worth a try.

Many dealers used that. It worked for both my bikes years later, when I decided to check it out. (I always had 2 keys for each bike.)

Too bad you aren't closer to my shop in Orange/SoCal. I just might be able to pull the code with the bike in my shop. Did your dealer tell you they couldn't program the new key(s)? The dealer software (PADS) should be of help on the V7/9 platform.

I rode my bike to Elk Grove Motor Sports. They said they could not program the new key. Disappointing. I had a new spare key already cut and my old working key that came with the V9. I think I am the 4th owner. The previous two owners did not know the code nor had a second key.

i too wish I was closer to you! Will sending the dash overseas even work on the model V9 Roamer? As I recall, I don’t think I saw the V9 model listed on their site.

You might luck out to have the original key cloned locally, or search here for the options.

I thought about just cloning the key, if doable, so as to have a spare in case I lose the key, but after reading what could happen if something goes wrong with the bike, it just seemed prudent to get a real second key and get a code, if possible. Maybe I’m overthinking this? 🤔

You are not overthinking. If something happens to the key sensor antenna or control module, the bike will not run unless you enter the correct code. I personally have an extra key besides the two originals and have a personal code programmed, memorized, and written in the manual. I also have a plain metal key that I can use to test the function of the personal code periodically. I had an issue with the alarm/immobilizer system on a previous bike and want to avoid issues in the future.

I probably should dig in and try it before I get too carried away with sending out the dash.
yeah its should be super easy - the VIN should be visible on the frame, just try the last five numbers on the vin. took me like 5 min
