Stucchi Crash Bars

pete roper said:
I haven't looked at where they bolt too closely but all of the available 'Crash Bars' seem to have the problem that they bolt ether to the frame mounting holes on the engine or direct to bits of the engine case or timing chest itself.

Now just call me stupid but I thought that this sort of thing, if practical, was designed to *PROTECT your engine. Not trash it completely! Sure, they will, in most cases, save a bit of damage if you drop it in the garage or maybe at walking pace, but anything over that and they look like hey will actually cause MORE damage than they prevent!

I may be wrong. I hope so. Believe me I am accutely aware of the fragility of the top end and cam-boxes on the 8V motor, but what is better? writing off a head and cam-box? Or smashing your crankcase???

Just sayin'...................

Pete

One never knows what is going to get damaged. But the rear mount in the frame/motor mount looks secure. The top front mount is in the same general thick healthy crankcase area as the upper motor mount. But the lower bit in the oil sump looks weak.

Hopefully if disaster strikes, it will only require a sump replacement at worse.

I know when it was laying on its side in the mud, the most damage I suffered was from my wife.

Thanks, guys. It appears to me the Stucchi bars are similarly positioned, so they should be ok too.

Pete, someone at Stucchi told me about the bars the make for the Norge, and how they protected the bike in a crash at over 120km/h. I may even had gotten some pics which in that case I surely posted here. The best thing would of course be not to crash ... or maybe get a Honda for the times you're planning to ;)

Hello
I thought i would add to this thread, i have purchased and fitted the stucchi crash bars and would to say what a pleasure it was fitting them nothing could be more simple, and the instructions supplied were good they look well made and fitted with no problems plus i think they look fantasic. Added these Stucchi Luigi bars to my 09 Stelvio yesterday. Installation could not have been easier. PERFECT fit, 25 minutes start to finish.

Am I wrong or has anyone else noticed that if you use the spiffy factory driving lights with their spiffy mounts, they are now the wide part of the bike, and a nice simple garage tump will cause the lights to be smashed and to in turn smash inward into the plastic and ....:eek:hmy:

Exactly

I was looking at them only today, it looks like the mount on the light is buckled, hoping I can get just the mount but probably need the whole light, if so I might get some others...Anybody know if PIAAs would fit on the MG lamp bracket?
