    leak oil joint carter

I finally got my G8 back in June. I then tried to get MG GB to help out, but despite saying: I never managed to get any help. I was totally fed up by now and had fallen out of love with the bike while it was away. I am getting my new Honda this week, having traded in the Griso - good...

Mileage of UK Griso 1200 8v's

Looking around at the usual sites selling bikes (biketrader, exchange&mart, ebaymotors, MCN), I didn't see any 8v's with more than 12,000 miles on the clock. I didn't think I used mine that much and I've done 15,000. I am wondering if this is because the high mileage one's are not being sold...

    Brake light unwanted activation

I have attempted to fix mine today. The switch and its mounting don't appear to have any scope for adjustment, but I tried loosening the mounting bolt and pushing the switch body in the desired direction while tightening. My lever does seem to be quite loose - I put this down to when I came off...

    Brake light unwanted activation

Funnily enough, somebody just pointed this out on my bike tonight. If you wobble the lever, the brake light flickers on. I will have to look at this and see how it can be adjusted. I have the standard levers and the switch appears to be underneath the cylinder. Regards, David

    Name that instrument cluster plug

I think that is the plug for the Air Temperature Sensor. I guess the temperature reading isn't correct, but you haven't noticed. Regards, David

    Pipes clean up.

I bought some Swarfega Metal Cleaner & Restorer. It has the following description: I haven't got araound to trying it yet. Has anybody got experience of this or a similar product? I don't want to cause any damage! I am planning on doing some before/after pictures when I do it. Regards, David

    leak oil joint carter

Sorry to hear of more trouble like this. Can you believe I am still waiting to get mine back from this fix! I feel like I have missed lots of good riding weather. I have been using my old XR125 in the meantime. £194 on parts plus a front headstock stand so far... David

    8V NGK Plug #'s

I notice the NGK CR8EKB is a dual electrode plug. According to NGK: "Two ground electrodes allow sacrifice of more material before gap size becomes too large therefore service mileage is increased." Regards, David

    Safety Wiring Fasteners

I used the Blue loctite and some anti vibration washers (can't remember what kind). Regards, David

    leak oil joint carter

Commiserations Cosmo. It does almost sound like they just replaced the gasket or a seal and didn't deal with the root of the problem. It obviously takes a while to happen as mine lasted 14,000 miles before it leaked. Interestingly while I was browsing ebay.co.uk, I came accross this...

    Garage-Bound in Milan

No problem, Bill. Mine's still attached after using glue. Only shame is that it doesn't seem to keep the front that clean. Regards, David

    leak oil joint carter

I have arranged to take it down to a local, highly recommended, mechanic who has owned Moto Guzzis. I will wait and see what is wrong and then maybe chase MG UK about parts, etc. I have only got an unheated shed and it is the middle of winter - though to be fair not actually icy or anything...

    leak oil joint carter

Just a quick update, my nearest dealer was George White's - who have just gone bust! So 160 miles to my nearest dealer. Maybe I should have bought a Honda - I have friends recommending I get a Blackbird instead! Regards, David

    leak oil joint carter

It's just happened to me too! I thought I would balance my cylinders again, because it was seeming a bit vibey. When I had just about finished, I noticed oil on the floor of the shed. I looked underneath the bike and found oil all around the sump and some around that side plug. I took a few...

Here's my current settings: Front: Protusion: 6 rings; Preload: 4 rings; Compression: 1.5 turns out; Rebound: 0 turns out. Rear: Preload +4.5 turns from stock; Compression: 2.5 turns out; Rebound: 17 click out. My Weight: 100Kg (220lb). Solo use. Regards, David

    Turning in problem

Good point, Mark. I can believe your idea about it being done just for the photos. I don't want to suggest that anybody should take this as a starting point. I know that my bike's handling was transformed by tweaking the suspension. I did mine from first principles following the general...

    Turning in problem

As we are discussing adjusting the suspension, or not, I noticed this recently. These are quite old photos, maybe from the launch of the 8v: What I spotted is the amount that the forks are sticking through, seen clearly on this zoomed in section: Maybe they should have been like that all...

    Turning in problem

Neil, I was going to wait until you came back with your tyre pressures before mentioning the suspension settings, but seeing as Will has started... I raised my forks so that 6 notches are showing, and also increased the rear preload, both helping to tilt the bike down forward from stock. I...
