1000S seat relief

Anyone reworked the seating arrangement on the 1000S?.Never been a candidate for the iron but rally but if this keeps up much longer I may have a pretty good shot at placing in the top 5...anybody tried the airhawk cushions?.They seem like they would change the profile quite a bit. :sick: Thanks
 
I found the airhawk tedious to set up and not all that great. Sheepskin worked better for me on my LeMans. I'd try to get my hands on another seat pan and send it to Sargent seats. Sargent web site is here: http://www.sargentcycle.com/ The 1000s, I believe, will be gaining in the collector market and you do want to keep the original stock components.
 
Funny how experience differs from person to person. Agree that stock seat on S is totally brutal, much like sitting on concrete. However, I believe issue is grossly excessive hardness of "foam," not the contours of the seat. Also agree with John that as a collectable bike, better off to keep appearance at or near stock for value purposes. However, I found Airhawk to be easy to use/adjust & made the seat far, far more comfortable for me. My 1000S now has 75,000 miles on it, & has been used for longish (over 1000 miles) trips many times-after getting the Airhawk. Trick with Airhawk is no resist tendency to put in too much air, you want to be lifted just barely off the seat. Easy to adjust the air in the thing. Start with what appears to just lift you off the seat, try a bit more/less, ride, repeat. Seemed easy to me. However, problem with Airhawk-at least in sunny/smoggy LA, is that after a few years it has begun developing serial leaks to the point where I have given up trying to patch it. As a temp fix I pulled the inflateable cushion, replaced with a couple of layers of closed cell foam from the wife's overly long exercise pad. The Airhawk outer sheath keeps the foam pads in place, & it works reasonably well. That said, I probably will eventually send the seat off to Sargent. They did the old seat on my high mileage T3 a number of years ago, again just by replacing the old worn out stock foam & seat cover with their excellent stuff without any reshaping whatsoever. Worked great & has held up very well.
