V50 Monza – Carburetor Blues
Now that it’s time to re-install the Dell'Orto PHBH 28 carbs on my 1981 V50 Monza, I’ve encountered the following issues:
1. The flip-up choke lever on the left side hits the frame and will not lift to the full up position.
2. The float bowl/bolt on the right side rides on the clutch cable, and will not allow the carb to drop down to horizontal. Not good for float level or clutch cable. (I tried re-routing the cable an inch or so to outboard, but it still isn’t right.)
3. I wanted to use pod filters, but the stock manifolds are kicked in at such an angle that this is impossible. I doubt there would be room for one pod, let alone two.
I did try flipping the manifolds over, but the carbs sit way too far outboard. It puts them in harm’s way and looks like crap.
Questions: Short of a major modification to the stock manifolds, does anyone know of any shorter or straighter manifold that would bolt up to the V50 engine intake port?
The fact that the flange is 25.5mm from the gasket seat doesn’t make it easy to use parts from another engine.
Apologies if this is an old topic, but I searched and found no related threads. Also did web search and did not find any components that would work. Still, I can't be the first to encounter this problem, can I?
Thanks for assistance, anyone!
