2000 Jackal, won't idel

It was the wire that supply's the power to the ignition switch, which supplies most everything, so it didn't really narrow it down....basically nothing had power with it disconnected.
It has to be something that can cause a dead short,
I've ruled out:
The Starter
The Fuel Pump
And pretty sure it's not in the wiring harness.

Can the regulator cause a dead short?
Or the Alternator?

Possible, disconnect the wires from the regulator/rectifier and see what happens. You can leave the two yellow wires connected as they are from the stator to the regulator. Disconnect the blue, red, and red/black wires. That will isolate the system from the rest of the bike.
 
Was busy over the weekend and didn't get to work on it...did take a quick look, and it looks like the regulator is going to be pretty difficult to disconnect, why wouldn't they just put a connector there?
Will I have to drop the coils to un-hook the regulator?

There should be enough slack in the wires to pull them out and disconnect. If not, just loosen the two bolts at the top of the engine guard and the regulator mounting plate will slide out and you can disconnect it that way.
 
Got the regulator unhooked...(not sure I can get it hooked back up...).still shorting out....I'm pretty disgusted with it at this point, and not sure what to try next.
 
At this point I can't do much to help you without putting hands on the bike. If you don't want to take it to a shop (Sloans would probably be the closest) or to Huntsville AL, I do know a good independent BMW guy in Lexington that might look at it for you.
