2001 Cal weak points?

I'm trying to be new to the guzzi world I fell in luv after a ride! Now i'm looking at buying a bike and It sure would help to find any weak points when i'm shopping around thanks every soo much ! I've been turnning a wrench for over 25 years so projects are fun but I just wanna ride!!!!
 
I have a 2001 Cali Metal, now with 65,000km on it. The only weakness from the factory were the Siemens relays, which manifest itself as a slow cranking starter, and the sticking fuel cap. I replaced the former with a set from Pyro Dan (about $20), and fixed the latter with a big bastard! (about 10 minutes). Recently I replaced the TPS which cured a hesitating problem that had been occurring on and off over 18 months. Whether a TPS wears out over time or with use, I don't know. Harley one cost me $78 vs a Guzzi one at $760!!

Reliability, ease of maintenance, and maintaining the finish have been A1.
 
Just over 42k miles on my 01 Special and it's been trouble free since the initial FI problem was fixed. Basically an adjustment but took a long time to correct due to lack of dealer competence.

I have had no trouble with relays but have had the sticking gas cap (easy fix with a file) and the tank suck (removed tipover valve) issues that are very common around this time.

If you are looking at a cal special as opposed to a Jackal, another common problem is the plastic chrome bits on fenders and side covers are held on by little plastic nips that break and the bits come loose or fall off altogether. I found some marine silicon sealant that has held the bits quite well. best to do this preemptively.

You will also find that 2001 was a transition year meaning that certain parts changed in the middle of the year so sometimes it's a little more difficult ordering parts than it should be. Not a big deal though.
