I am installing an 2007 Breva ie 750 motor into a Pembleton Supersports kit car (pembletondaytona.blogspot.com). I have the engine bolted to the gearbox and am trying to sort the fuel injection electronics. I am using the original Moto Guzzi harness as a starting point and have connected the ECU, original instrument cluster and relays and other necessary components according to the original electric schematic. The engine starts VERY reluctantly and will not run more than a few seconds. HELP! - from some one who knows how the ECU operates.

At startup the instrument cluster illuminates properly. The fuel pump starts and then shuts down as it's supposed to. Relays 37, 38 and 11 operate continuously but relay 12 (secondary injection relay) activates then deactivates after a few seconds. Relay 12 applies voltage to power the coils, injectors, fuel pump and lambda sensor. When I activate the starter it seems as though the ECU is supposed to spring to life to again activating Relay 12 thus applying power to operate the coils, injectors, fuel pump and lambda sensor. When I use a test set signal light to confirm that power is being applied to those components the light is very weak and measures well below 12 volts, being near 10 volts, which does not seem to be enough power to operate them. Consequently, the motor...she- a- no- run!

I don't know if there is any way to test the ECU. I bought it off of ebay several months ago with the assurance of the seller that it "came out of a running bike". Does anybody have clue?

Since you are using an original harness, start by downloading the schematic for the 750 Breva in the downloads section. Go over all the electrical connections. If you are getting that much voltage drop, it sounds like you have some high resistance connections in you harness. Hopefully you still have the diagnostics connector so if you still can't resolve the issue, pick up a copy of Centurion for the 15RC ECU from the store tab. That should let you know if there are any error codes and where to go form there. Also check the condition of the battery you are using. If voltage drops to 10, the ECU will shut down.

In addition to Centurion, there is also a shareware program called Guzzidiag that performs similarly. The learning curve is steep, so it might be better to have a Guzzi rider check the set up for you, with his software. I see you're in Daytona, so there should be a Guzzi guy down there with the software.

Alternatively, you could take the ECU to a local dealer and ask them to check.
Or, a local rider could replace his ECU with yours on his bike, to see if it runs then. That might be the easiest check.
