Had my 8V in for the first service and found out that they did not put the correct oil in it (did not have any 10-60) I went to another dealer who had the correct oil so I purchased the needed amount and a new filter. The old filter was on very very tight and when removed the rubber gasket was not on the filter it was stuck to the seating area. As I reached up to remove it the bolt that the filter screws on to rattled, it was loose!!! I went ahead and placed the new filter on and LIGHTLY tightened it up. It did not leak upon finishing inspection.

Is this OK? I am concered about the mount being loose.

OK, Part #2 is what the filter mounts on. I *think* it's a 24 or 26mm nut with twin threaded ends. Obviously if it was loose in the case then currently what is stopping it spinning off is the fact that the filter gasket is puting some pressure on it.

Are you sure it was loose? it wasn't just the filter rattling on the threads as you installed it?

My advice?

Take the filter off, no need to drain the oil, most of it will stay in the engine. and use a socket on the fitting to make sure it's tight and then re-install the filter and tighten it up, just make sure you don't get shit in the business end of the filter while it's off.

Pete
