Without tearing my bike apart again can anybody tell me where the ECU is hidden. The service manual shows under the right side fairing area but just looking I can't see it and I didn't see it when the tank was off but I didn't look very hard as I forgot about it while tying to test for spark. When it ran I bolted it up and went "Ah, crap".
 
According to the service manual, it's toward the front under the tank... #15 in this diagram:

If it is like the 1100 Breva, it is bolted under a plate behind the steering head. With the tank off, you can see the plate, and the ECU is hidden below.
 
John you win again. Looking up from below the steering neck I could remove the ground wire and clean it just in case the "ECU ground" message was legitimate. I would have removed the other connectors and hit them with some Deoxit but that isn't happening while the tank is on. That will happen this winter if the bike doesn't force it before then.
