Recently changed the oil in the rear differential. Motul 300 full synthetic. I did not use any moly additive. Is this necessary with the synthetic gear oil.

Do you mean the oil at the end of the shaft for which you have to take the wheel off. Not done mine yet (service interval is supposed to be 50,000 km from recollection), but I think everyone does it before that anyway, especially after break-in period. Many just wait for their first tire change and do it then (still waiting for mine). I've not heard/read about anyone adding moly to the oil and I don't intend to add any to mine, just make sure you use the oil specified (80W90 GL4 or better, many use GL5 as GL4 is getting harder to find) and fill it to the level of the "level plug" with bike horizontal and upright.

My owners manual says it takes 430cc, but the C1400 service manual says 250cc (I believe from other posts here that the latter is correct), if you can, try to measure it. If you overfill, it tends to find it's own way out which could be over the back wheel.

While you are there it's advisable to check the splines that the wheel engages into are greased with Moly otherwise there is a risk of them rusting into place. Some early production models weren't greased at the factory

Thanks. Good info. I was told 250 cc by the MG dealer. I suppose I should have waited till the rear tire needs changing. My bike was stored for almost 2 years before I got it and I decided to swap out all the old fluids all at once before putting any serious kms on it.

It feels like it does run a little smoother on the Motul synthetic.

If you're changing all the fluids, you might want to read this post about not overfilling the engine with oil
