2022 V7 850 - Oil level / consumption?

Hello, fellow Guzzi enthusiasts.

I've got some worries about my 2022 Guzzi V7 850 Special, so, to all of the V7 owners, especially for those with the 2021+ models, please read the following:

Prerequisites:
Model: V7 850 Special 2022
Kilometers: 2700 km +/-
1st Oil Service: at about 800 km
Kilometers on the current oil: about 1900-2000 km
Engine oil quantity used when the oil change was made: 1750 ml of oil
Breaking in was made using a progressive but firm throttling throughout all the RPM range and engine braking, and I haven't used it in town when it was in the breaking in period.

Worries:
In the last two days I've rode for about 800 kilometers on twisty roads, sometimes gave it the beans a bit, about 250 km of highway with speeds between 100 and 130 km/h etc. I've noticed that the oil level dropped a little from the Max mark to a level between the middle of the sight glass and the Max mark when the engine is warm.

There is no smoke and there are no visible leaks. I've removed the air filter and notice that there was a little bit of oil on the bottom of it, as it can be seen in the attached pictures.

The oil level was correctly measured on a plane surface with the hot engine, on the same surface it was measured after the oil change was performed.
Is it normal for the V7 to consume oil at such low mileage?
I've kept reading on the www and some people said that the oil consumption disappeared after 10-15.000 kilometers because it took that long for the engine to bed in.

Some other folks are saying that the perfect oil level for the V7 is right in the middle of the sight glass and it shouldn't burn any oil and the 1.75 liters of oil is too much, and about 1.5 liters should be used.

Anyone here is having the V7 850 engine and it is willing to share a story about this subject? Does your burn oil? If yes, how much and how can this issue be addressed.

By the way, this in the picture is the oil level with the cold engine. When it is warm it raises a bit more, but not to the top mark as It was.

Can you please share your thoughts about this?

Again, read the banners at the top of the page. Search is your friend. If you fill to the max level you are over filled and the engine will eliminate the excess. So long as the oil level is half way in the window you are fine.

Where you are at is where it should be. All Guzzis will blow out anything over roughly 1/2 full. All dealers put in too much so their customers don't yell at them for "not filling it up." Owners do the same thing because Guzzi lists the dry engine assembly specs not the used engine ones. Always start with 20% less than what they call for and then go to the 1/2 way mark.

Thank you, John! I've did a search with the forum search function before posting this but maybe I used the wrong keywords / combination since nothing that 'fitted my taste' was found

The oil saga it has a bit of background. At the first service, dealer used 2 liters of oil, 250cc more than the manual recommends for this generation of V7. I took out 250cc so I said to myself that this is the correct level, because I was checking with the manual.

After the V7 'finds' the correct level it should stay there until the next oil change? I plan to do the oil change every 3500-4000 km by myself since it seems you cannot trust the dealer and the oil quantity needed is low.

The number one fault of motorcycle owners of Moto Guzzi motorcycles, is this obsessive compulsion with the oil level.

The correct level is when cold, that the oil in the sight glass is anywhere from the middle of the sight glass down to the bottom of the sight glass. If it is in this area, it is fine. Do not mess with it.

Every engine will "find" its sweet spot where the oil will level out

New engines will burn oil until the rings get seated fully. It's small, but still there.

Excessive babying of the engine will result in an engine that burns oil forever.

Again, SEARCH is your best friend here.

Please read this thread. I wrote how to break in your engine properly so it does not burn oil forever. Todd (GTM) does too.

Thank you for this! Well, I'm just going to ride it as much as I can, not going to babying the throttle. Just will change the oil every 4000 kms or so, and that's it.

You are most welcome!

Welcome to the GuzziTech famiglia!

In order to get the rings to seat and bed in to the cylinder walls, you need 3 things: heat, pressure, and frequency variation.

Read my post in that thread. It explains this in detail.

Your motorcycle will service you well and not burn oil if you break it in like this. The very best location for breaking in an engine, is hills and mountains. Always. If you have access to these types of roads, go there frequently and ride with gusto up and down the elevation changes. Normal throttle variation will occur naturally and heat, pressure, and frequency will be randomized as well.

Droning along at the same constant throttle is the worst thing to do during a break-in period.

FYI, the newer Guzzi's call for the oil hot after a 10 minute ride then sitting for 10. I find virtually no difference between that and cold "most of the time". Because it's not the old wet sump it could make a difference ,but not enough to care. Go ride it!

Thank you, sir! At this moment, the bike has 2600 kms on the clock. The first 1000 kms I rode it only outside of the town and variated the throttle, sometimes going near to the redline, engine braking etc. I tried to follow up the MotoMan's technique. I tried to avoid as much as possible to keep a constant RPM more than 1-2 minutes.

Do you consider it as fully bedded in at this number of kilometers? Or should I keep doing this?

On the last 800 kilometers I did in the the last two days I took some of the most curvy roads in my country, highway etc.

It will not be fully bedded into the cylinder walls for at least 10,000 km. At this point, oil consumption should reduce to a minimal amount.

Until that time, just monitor the oil and leave it as I told you earlier as far as level goes.

Drive her with gusto. Use freeway and expressway on-ramps for full power runs.

Drive hills and mountains as much as you can whenever possible. It’s not so much curves but changes in elevation, going up and down. Inclines place differing loads on the engine.

You will be very happy with the results.

Thank you so much for the advice, sir!! I really appreciate it!! Will try to follow up your advice!
